What We're About:
The Ithaca Sufi Center is an eclectic group of spiritually oriented individuals who study the teachings of Hazrat Inayat Khan, (please see the Mission Statement below and the links on the left side of this page). The Group is led by NurQalbia Emmons, a Representative of the Sufi Order International; and Gabrielle Kotzer, Healing Conductor.

As of September 29th 2009, the Group will be meeting on Tuesdays at 5:30 PM in the First Baptist Church, DeWitt Park, Ithaca NY. The meetings consist of a variety of prayers, meditations and chants. The heart of each meeting is a reading from the works of Hazrat Inayat Khan, followed by a brief discussion of the reading.

Mission Statement:
The mission of the Sufi Order International is to spread the Message of Unity as given by Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan and taught by Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan, Pir Zia Inayat Khan and other authorized teachers of the Order. To serve this mission, the Sufi Order International offers programs of training for spiritual realization and the integration of the ideals of love, harmony and beauty; develops spiritual guides capable of giving authentic training in the inner life; produces educational public events and publications; and provides community service projects to help relieve suffering in the world.

Special Events:

> Retreats with Mahdiah Jacobs Kahn at Light On the Hill, October 22 through November 4, 2010, for Five, Ten or Fourteen Days. Mahdiah will guide either Raphaelite Healing Retreats or Alchemical Retreats.                                           Retreats are a time to leave the confines of our daily lives and to focus on our inner lives. It is time to find the hidden treasure that resides in all of us and that longs to be known– that kernel of the Divine that is our True Being. It is a time to renew and rejuvenate ourselves, to heal old wounds, and to see life from a new perspective. In short, it is a time to transform ourselves and our lives.                                           There are essentially two ways to effect such a transformation. One way is through transcendence, in philosophical terms, the Platonic way. In this way we transcend our limited self and enter into a boundless state in which we can see ourselves and our lives as a microcosm of the macrocosm. The other way of achieving transformation is through imminence, the Aristotilian method of beginning with the particular and moving into the larger principle e.g. from the microcosm to the macrocosm. In healing retreats we use the second approach. We use the practice of being present to five dimensions (physical, emotional, mental, moral and spiritual) of our Being and our hearts as a way of opening to healing the wounds in those five areas and opening into space and eventually finding our essential Being.                                        Mahdiah Esther Jacobs Kahn, MSW, LCSW is a Raphaelite Healer and Trainer and a Shafiayat (Senior Teacher) in the Sufi Healing Order. She is the head of the Raphaelite retreat work and the One on One Processing aspects of the healing work. > Judging Voices / Sacred States
A Workshop with Mahdiah Esther Jacobs Kahn, LCSW, sponsored by Ithaca Sufi Center on November 5, 6, 7, 2010 at The Foundation of Light.

We all have an inner voice that tells us we are doing things wrong - that we are somehow deficient. That voice leaves us feeling ashamed and guilty. It is tied to a false image of who we are and how the world is and anchors us in that image. This workshop will explore the inner structure that holds that voice (the superego), what it is, how and when it develops, and most importantly - ways to deal with it. The critical judgmental voice anchors us to a limited false image of who we are and blocks our True Being and the sacred states that hold our real values. It ties us to ideals that we mistake for Truth and blocks the opening of spiritual dimensions of Being.
The workshop will be didactic and experiential and will cover the development of thesuperego and its evolution into an ethical system and eventually its absorption into essential structures that hold our values, ideals and a way of living that is in line with Being and our True Self. When we can successfully confront our superego, and still that inner voice, we release the false image that we hold of ourselves and begin to access our True Being; our Essential Self.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 5, 6, 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
at The Foundation of Light, 391 Turkey Hill Road, Ithaca, NY (directions can be googled).
The cost is $225.00 before October 1, $275.00 after. For any one day the cost is $100.00. (There will be a processing fee of $35 for cancellations and no refunds after October 15.) Please register by sending a check written to Ithaca Sufi Center.
